Looking ahead to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Gold Medal Barbie celebrates the excitement of competition and the enduring power of teamwork. With a winning smile, this original Gold Medal Barbie is certainly an Olympic favorite!
Gold Medal Barbie is an all-time Olympic winner! Made in Taiwan in 1974 and released by Mattel in 1975, Gold Medal Barbie represented a delegate from the United States to the Olympic Games that would take place the following year, 1976, in Montreal, Canada, and which by the way were quite controversial. But in the world of Barbie and imagination, where everything is play and fun, we leave differences aside and let Barbie compete in the sporting discipline that we like.
I decided that my Gold Medal Barbie would be an Olympic gymnast, the only problem was that I didn’t have the Olympic Gymnast Set that Mattel launched with her and with Gold Medal PJ Gymnast. So my loving husband, always so thoughtful, took the initiative to make the “bars” for my doll! I loved it! It turned out quite realistic and I really enjoyed doing her photo shoot and appreciate what he did for me!
The original Gold Medal Barbie has the vintage Stacey face sculpt, the same one used on Sunset Malibu Barbie. She has bright blue eyes and a winning smile! Her hair is long, blonde, and shiny. She also features a Twist ‘n Turn waist and bendable legs. She is wearing a U.S. Olympic-style swimsuit in red, white and blue. In 2021, Mattel launched a reproduction of Gold Medal Barbie, quite faithful to the original, designed by Bill Greening and sold as Black Label.
The original Gold Medal Barbie came in a cool slim box with Olympic graphics and included a “gold” medal for the doll as well as a full-size U.S. Olympic jacket patch. Inside the box it also included a special coupon to order by mail a U.S. Olympic shield for iron-on, a U.S. Olympic record book, and a life-size simulated Olympic gold medal for you, all 3 for only $1.00!
