California Dream Barbie is vacationing in the Surfing Capital of Puerto Rico, the beautiful town of Rincón, where “our friends splash in the surf, the whole beach is our turf. Fun filled days, and fun filled nights, we just want to keep on playing, we just want to keep on playing.”
Rincón, Puerto Rico, town of beautiful sunsets is a treasured destination for surfers from different parts of the world. The shores of Rincón became for the first time in 1968 the host for the World Surfing Games of the International Surfing Association (ISA), an event that popularized the sport of surfing in Puerto Rico. California Dream Barbie knows that beaches like Domes, Marías, Tres Palmas, Sandy Beach, Pools Beach, Corsica Beach and Rincón Town Beach are recognized by international surfers, so she came to Rincón to prepare for the 2024 ISA World Surfing Games that will take place precisely in the municipality of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, the final qualifier for Paris 2024 Olympic Games!
The California Dream Barbie line is one of the coolest and more fun collections released by Mattel in the 80’s! It includes Barbie’s friends: Ken, Christie, Midge, Teresa, and Skipper, which was included for the European market. In addition, the California Dream Barbie line included several eye-catching fashions and the most fun playsets such as the California Dream Barbie Surf ‘n Shop, California Dream Barbie Hot Dog Stand, California Dream Barbie Beach Taxi, California Dream Barbie Malibu Beach Party, and California Dream Barbie Pool Party playset. My version of California Dream Barbie was made in 1987 in Malaysia. I think that’s the reason why she doesn’t have those white spots that usually come out on the legs of Barbie dolls from the late 80’s frequently seen in those made in Philippines.
California Dream Barbie has long light blonde hair. This Barbie is characterized by her big puffy mall bangs, a super trend in the late 80’s and early 90’s. She has beautiful superstar face with pretty big blue eyes like the ocean and framed in blue eyeliner and soft lilac eye shadow. She comes dressed in a colorful and bright California beach style outfit, perfect for rollerblading down the Malibu Beach! Her outfit consists of a blue polka-dot and pink skirt with 80’s scribbles print, a yellow polka-dot vest with designs alluding to the California beach and movie lifestyle, blue leg warmers, and yellow boot sneakers, an authentic reflection of the pop fashion of the 80’s.
When California Dream Barbie is ready to ride the wave, she does it in a fun polka-dot bikini. The French cut briefs are blue cotton with white dots. The matching bandeau top has centre gathers and white straps. Her sensational earrings are green palm tree with coconut studs, a very well thought out accessory to complement her Californian beach style! She also comes with sunglasses, pink visor and flying disc with stickers to decor, pink camera, black beach bag, hairbrush, cardboard photos, a comic book titled “The Treasure Map,” and a 7″ vinyl record with a song written and sung especially for Barbie by The Beach Boys entitled “Living Doll!”
