Midge Camp Barbie Doll 1993

Released in 1993 by Mattel, the Midge Camp Barbie doll was part of the colorful Camp Barbie collection that included Barbie, Skipper, Teresa, and Ken, along with an African American Barbie version. This early 1990s-line celebrated outdoor adventure, friendship, and imaginative storytelling. Camp Midge quickly became a favorite thanks to her sweet expression, practical camping gear, and vibrant red hair that made her instantly recognizable among Barbie’s friends.

My particular 1993 Camp Midge doll has a special sentimental story. She was gifted to me by a dear friend from her childhood collection, and she is the second doll I have shared so far from that treasured group. Although she no longer has her original camp outfit, I restyled her with fashion pieces from California Dream Barbie and Wet ’n Wild Barbie, giving her a playful early ’90s vibe. Thankfully, she still preserves most of her original accessories, including her boot shoes, sunglasses, kettle, and her iconic transforming backpack that turns into a sleeping bag decorated with glow-in-the-dark stars — and yes, they still glow beautifully after all these years. She is only missing her cooking pan. After carefully cleaning her and giving her a gentle boil wash, she looks almost like new again. She features the classic Diva/Midge face mold, bright blue eyes, and her signature red hair. One of her special features is that her hair was designed to change color in sunlight; however, when I tested it, I did not notice any visible streaks shifting in color — something that can naturally fade with time in vintage dolls. Even so, she perfectly captures the charm of 1990s Midge. And of course, after all, she is Camp Midge — so I couldn’t resist preparing a sweet little camping scene just for her, bringing her adventurous spirit back to life.
