Barbie Brooklyn Riding Doll from Barbie Mysteries: The Great Horse Chase

The Barbie Brooklyn riding doll from Barbie Mysteries: The Great Horse Chase is a fun addition to any Barbie collection, especially for collectors who enjoy character dolls inspired by Barbie’s animated series. This Brooklyn doll brings her equestrian look from the Netflix series into the Barbie world with a riding outfit, helmet, long braided hair, and her recognizable Brooklyn face. This 2024 release is particularly interesting for collectors who like to document the different versions of Brooklyn produced during this era. The doll is part of the Barbie Mysteries: The Great Horse Chase collection and was designed to recreate the horseback-riding adventures seen in the series.

Barbie Brooklyn’s Look and Face

One of my favorite things about this Barbie Brooklyn doll is her face. She has beautiful brown eyes, freckles across her face, and long dark hair styled in braids with painted baby hairs along her hairline. I especially like the baby-hair detail because it gives her hairstyle a more finished and distinctive appearance. Her braids also work perfectly with the equestrian theme, keeping her hair neatly styled for horseback riding adventures. As a collector, I appreciate dolls that have facial details and hairstyles that make them immediately recognizable as a particular character rather than simply looking like another Barbie in a different outfit. Brooklyn’s face and hairstyle are two of the details that make this doll stand out in a collection.

Her Equestrian Outfit

Brooklyn is dressed in a colorful equestrian outfit inspired by her look in Barbie Mysteries: The Great Horse Chase. Her top is a white shirt with a blue argyle riding-vest design printed directly onto it, making the shirt and vest a single piece rather than separate layers. A bright pink bow at the neckline adds a pretty detail that coordinates with her pink riding pants. She also wears black riding boots and a light blue riding helmet, completing her classic horseback-riding look. I like how the combination of the blue argyle print, bright pink bow, and matching pink pants gives the outfit a polished yet youthful appearance while still looking appropriate for a riding adventure.

Articulation for Horseback Riding

For collectors who pay attention to articulation, this Brooklyn doll has bending joints at the elbows, knees, and hips/upper legs which are especially useful for positioning her on a Barbie horse. These joints make a noticeable difference when creating riding poses or photographing the doll in a diorama. But, one thing I would have preferred, however, is wrist articulation. Brooklyn’s hands do not have any wrist articulation, so they cannot be rotated or repositioned independently. This makes it difficult to position her hands naturally, especially when trying to place them on the reins or create realistic riding poses. As a collector who enjoys posing and photographing dolls, this is one detail I notice when creating scenes. Her elbows and knees provide useful articulation for riding, but articulated wrists would have made her poses much more natural.

Final Thoughts on Barbie Brooklyn Riding Doll

As a collector, I think this Barbie Brooklyn riding doll is a charming character release and a nice representation of Brooklyn from Barbie Mysteries: The Great Horse Chase. I especially appreciate the combination of her freckled face, brown eyes, braided hair, equestrian outfit, and articulated knees and elbows. She has enough character-specific details to make her interesting beyond being simply another Barbie in a riding outfit. For collectors building a Barbie Mysteries collection, she also pairs naturally with the Malibu riding doll and the other horses and playsets from the series. For me, the addition of better wrist articulation would have made her even more appealing, but her overall look makes her a lovely Brooklyn doll to add to a Barbie collection.
